The Suit, the Housedress, the Mink, the Coat, & the Nightie

A Scrutiny Mutiny presented by the Hook Experiment, Oxford, PA, 2025-26

In A Scrutiny Mutiny, five Campus Cuties — identical figures distinguished only by what they wear — stand against a field of repeated eyes and lips, observed and observing. Named for their garments rather than themselves, The Suit, The Housedress, The Mink, The Coat, and The Nightie propose that clothing is not decoration but assignment: a social script written on the body that determines how a woman moves, holds herself, and is read by others. Each panel fixes the figure in a moment of performed identity — compliant, resistant, or suspended somewhere uncomfortably between.

Five painted laser-etched artworks from the Campus Cuties series were included in this group exhibition exploring observation, judgment, conformity, and resistance.
